No School on Thursday, April 18, 2019
Due to the potential for severe weather forecast for our area much of the day tomorrow, Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley announced that classes at all TPSS campuses will be canceled on Thursday, April 18.
“The worst of the weather is expected to arrive around noon Thursday, and I don’t feel we could safely get all of our students off the roads and home in time,” Stilley said.
The superintendent said she has remained in close contact with parish officials and neighboring superintendents, all of whom are concerned about road conditions which could be hazardous during peak drive times.
“Out of an abundance of caution for our families, our students, and our employees, we think it best to cancel classes Thursday and encourage everyone who can to stay out of harm’s way while this weather system moves through our area,” Stilley said.
All Tangipahoa Parish public schools and school offices will close Thursday due to the forecasted storms. Stilley said the closure includes all employees, including 12 month staff, who will be excused from work on Thursday due to the weather.
Thursday’s closure falls on the eve of the district’s annual spring break, which will be observed from Friday, April 19, through Sunday, April 28. Students return to classes on Monday, April 29.
An official statement will be posted on the school system website, TangiSchools.org, as well as on the Tangipahoa Parish School System Facebook page, and shared with the local media Thursday afternoon.
