9-11-2001 – It was an event that changed the lives of every American. We all know where
we were when we heard of this tragedy. The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival is working
with the Stephen Siller “Tunnel to Towers Foundation” for the 49th Strawberry Festival. The
festival is working to make this available, not only for the festival, but also for the children in
our parish’s school system. We are working closely with the Tangipahoa School Board to
make this available to all students and residents.
The Stephen Siller Foundation Mission:
“The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation honors the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen
Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001.
We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme
sacrifice of life and limb for our country.”
The Foundation has supported local fallen officer Captain Vincent Liberto, Jr.. of the
Mandeville Police Department by paying off the family’s mortgage in his honor.
“Tunnel to Towers is committed to ensuring we never forget the events of 9/11 and the
sacrifices that were made and continue to be made by our first responders in the line of
duty. Through our Fallen First Responder Home Program, we support our law enforcement
and firefighters that lost their lives under extraordinary circumstances in the line of duty. In
these times of tragedy, it is our mission to provide a support system for the surviving family
and ensure that they are cared for.”
The tentative plan for this is to make it available as follows:
Wednesday, April 1st – The 9/11 Memorial (Mobile Exhibit) will be escorted into
Ponchatoula by a full police escort where a service will be held. (TBA)
Thursday, April 2nd – The 9/11 Exhibit will be available for the schools in Tangipahoa
Parish Schools to experience on a field trip to visit.
Friday, April 3rd – Sunday, April 5th – The 9/11 Exhibit will be available at the Strawberry
Festival across from city hall behind the large strawberry where all visitors are welcome.
Please join us in making this possible for the City of Ponchatoula and surrounding areas.
Our Goal to make this happen is $15,000. If you would like to make a donation to help
make this possible for our children and everyone to experience this remarkable memorial,
please contact Sponsorship Chairman Jody Borne 985-320-9792.
