Congratulations to HAMMOND Westside Montessori Whirlbots and their
coaches: Mr. Ballard, Ms. Perry, and Ms. Bittola. Saturday, November 15, 2019, the Whirlbots
competed and placed in the regional competition, progressing the team
to compete in the state competition in the Spring. We are very proud of
the team and their hard work and many hours preparing. They
represented our school with dignity, respect and true sportsmanship.
Members of the Whirlbots 19533, Hammond Westside Montessori School's FIRST Lego League Robotics team, listened to Parish President Robby Miller today as he discussed some of Tangipahoa Parish's greatest needs. The Whirlbots are conducting research about a project, called the Innovation Project, needed for competition in this year's FIRST Lego League Regional Qualifier. Students compete, not only with a robot they have designed, built and programmed to complete a set of specialized tasks, but also in innovative solutions to community needs. This season the challenge is to assist your community in a project to build or re-purpose an existing structure or space using the Vitruvius principles of architecture: durability, utility, and beauty. The Whirlbots have a lot of great ideas from Mr. Miller and are excited to get started on a project that will help our community while also considering sustainability practices and accessibility to all parish citizens.
