    Operation Footlocker

Ms. Tyra Starkey, teacher at Loranger High School, recently attended The National World War II Museum's Teacher Happy Hour where she won the Operation Footlocker raffle. Educators were invited to a special two hour viewing of the museum's newest attractions: The Road to Berlin and The Road to Tokyo. Ms. Starkey utilized the World War II footlocker in her classroom the following week, giving her the opportunity to share with her students artifacts from the war. Students wore white cotton gloves to protect the artifacts from the natural oils on their skin. The artifacts they handled and researched included examples of V-Mail, high school yearbooks from the war era, ration books, Army issued undergarments, Higgins Boats propaganda, and jars of sand and gravel from Normandy and Hiroshima. Ms. Starkey's students then chose an artifact to research and completed poster projects. Ms. Starkey is shown in the picture with a World War II veteran, who presented her with the Operation Footlocker winning.
