  • Last Day of School, May 22

Last Day of School for Students

We do not have extra minutes banked in our school calendar to make up the instructional time lost on April 18, 2019 when schools were closed due to bad weather. Therefore, instead of being a half day of school, Wednesday, May 22, 2019 will be a full day.  Lunch will be served.

Thursday, May 23, 2019 is the last day for all 9-month certificated and non-certificated employees.

    HWM WHIRLBOTS

Our Whirlbots had their best showing ever, in a competition on Saturday, May 11, at the World War II Museum in New Orleans. Students were able to articulate answers to very   difficult questions and able to effectively articulate how they collect data and for what        purposes. Mega-Hurtz won 1st place in the project portion of the competition, but it was  truly a Whirlbot victory!

Next season is going to be interesting as students will have civil engineering related challenges with the release of Lego’s “City Shaper” mat in August. With every competition, they get better at every aspect in the league. They fully expect to go further than they have ever gone before as they continue to tackle new challenges. It’s been an awesome year!  Congratulations to our amazing Whirlbots and their coaches for a job well done!

  • DC Trip 2019

Hammond Westside Montessori took its' first inaugural trip to Washington, D.C., March 7-9. The students spent three jam packed days visiting and seeing all the sights that our Nation's Capital has to offer. Some of the highlights included visiting all the monuments and memorials on the National Mall like the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. The students toured the White House, visited Representative Steve Scalise's office where they were treated to a tour of the Capitol, visited the Holocaust Museum, and toured Arlington Cemetery where they witnessed the changing of the guards. The students and chaperones all had a wonderful time, and we are looking forward to offering this experience to all our future 8th grade classes! Those students and chaperones attending this year included: Mr. Oller, Mrs. Blades, Mrs. Colona, Samuel Bell, Piper Bentivegnia, Lamaurion Cook, Carter Copsey, Caniya Cyprian, Adam DeArmond, Tristan Howard, Alayna Huggins, YaKennya Jones, Ger'Lacia Toney, Quan'A'Nira Turner, Baily Vasquez, and Aaron Ward.
