The IB Programme at HHMS
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) is an advanced studies program which is comprehensive and rigorous and demands the best from motivated students. IB students study a broad spectrum of subjects and engage in research (Extended Essay or Reflective Project) and experiential learning through school, community, and international activities. In the forty years since its founding, the IB has become a symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise, recognized by leading universities in the U.S. and throughout the world.Pre-Diploma Programme (PDP)
The Pre-Diploma Programme is a challenging program for students in grades 9 and 10 developed to prepare students for the Career-related Programme (CP) and Diploma Programme (DP).
PDP students will learn how to learn, develop an understanding of academic integrity and honesty, and will practice assessments modeled after those given in the DP. Students who choose to undertake the Pre-Diploma Program will be prepared to enter any advanced studies program, but specifically, PDP is geared toward preparation for either the Diploma Programme or the Career-Related Programme.
IB Career-related Programme (CP)
The CP provides a comprehensive educational framework that combines highly regarded and internationally recognized courses, from the IB Diploma Programme (DP), with a unique CP core and an approved career-related study. IBO.org (2017)
The CP develops students to be:
- Academically strong
- Skilled in a practical field
- Critical and ethical thinkers
- Resilient and determined
- Confident and assured
- Caring and reflective
IB Diploma Programme (DP)
According to IBO.org (2015), the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is for students aged 16-19. The programme aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) assesses student work as direct evidence of achievement against the stated goals of the Diploma Programme (DP) courses (IBO.org, 2015).
The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay. Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.
