    Mission Statement
Tangipahoa Parish School District is committed to the goal of all children reading
on or above grade level by the end of third grade.
Our purpose is to facilitate comprehensive and systematic instruction in the five essential components of
effective reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension)
as supported by scientifically based reading research. We are committed to the early and
ongoing identification of students who are reading below grade level expectations,
and educating these students, using strategic and intensive programs that will meet prescriptive needs.
Our expectation is to improve teacher knowledge and behaviors through on-going, high quality professional
development, and in turn, affect significant improvement in students’ reading achievement.
Ensuring Literacy for All Initiative vision is to create a world-class education system for all students in Louisiana and this can only be done by having ALL students reading, writing  at or above grade level by the fourth grade. ELFA is designed to accomplish this vision.

Universal Screening in literacy is used in all K- 3 TPSS schools.

DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)

Big Ideas in Beginning Reading focuses on the five BIG IDEAS of early literacy:

The website includes definitions and descriptions of the research and theories behind each of the big ideas, describes how to assess the big ideas, and provides information on how to teach the big ideas in your classroom.

    RTI (Response to Intervention)

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a general education process that provides students with high-quality, research-based instruction and interventions that are matched to the student's specific needs. Data is used to drive decisions about student progress and to determine the appropriate instructional plan necessary for a student to achieve grade-level success.
