SUBJECT:      2012  LEAP Summer Remediation Program and Summer Retest

The Tangipahoa Parish School System will offer summer remediation to students in grades 4 and 8 who did not meet the LEAP achievement level set by the Louisiana State Department of Education and to students who did not take the spring test and wish to prepare for summer testing.

According to the High Stakes Testing Policy, a student may not be promoted to the 5th or 9th grade until he or she has scored at or above the Basic achievement level on either the English Language Arts or Mathematics component of the 4th or 8th grade LEAP and at minimum the Approaching Basic achievement level on the other.

LEAP summer remediation will begin on June 4, 2012 and end on June 25, 2012. The summer sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m and end at 3:30 p.m. each day (Monday through Thursday).  Schools will be closed on Fridays.

Non-public and home-schooled students in grades 4 and 8 who failed to achieve the Basic/Approaching Basic combination on the spring 2012 LEAP or who did not test in the spring but wish to prepare for the summer administration of the LEAP are also eligible for summer remediation.

The LEAP summer retest will be administered June 26-28, 2012.  Interested parents should contact the school in their district for registration procedures for the summer remediation program and/or the summer retest.

Any parents needing further information about the remediation program may contact Victoria Ott Frye at 985-748-2510.  If you need information about the summer retest, you may contact Jim Reeve, District Test Coordinator at 985-748-2514.
