Lynne Vance teaches English III (American Literature) and Fine Arts Survey. She began her teaching career at the age of 35, having previously worked in the field of journalism. Mrs. Vance received her first bachelor’s degree from LSU in journalism in 1979, along with a minor in psychology. It was when her two children started school that she began to take an interest in education and pursued a degree in secondary English education. In 1992 she did an internship at Sumner High School and then transferred to Loranger Middle School and taught seventh and eighth grade English for five years. In 1998 Mrs. Vance returned to Sumner High and has taught English, Journalism, (for a few years) and Fine Arts Survey. In 2005 she completed the requirements for National Board Certification in English Language Arts Adolescence and Young Adulthood, and in May she completed her master’s degree in Secondary Education.
One of things that she loves best about teaching is the opportunity to continually be a learner. As a matter of fact, if there were one thing that she would want to impart to her students it is just that – to be a life-long learner and never stop seeking to learn more about yourself and the world that we live in.
