Tangipahoa Parish School System Shows Growth on 2026 State Tests

Tangipahoa Parish School System is excited to report district-wide gains on the 2026 LEAP Assessments. These results offer valuable insight into student achievement and help guide our ongoing efforts to support every learner’s success. Guardians are able to view student LEAP scores in their Student Progress Center account. 

Our goal is to increase the percentage of students scoring proficiency, which means a student scored Mastery or Advanced on their state test. Proficiency means that our students are better prepared for college and career pathways when they exit high school.  

Overall, the district increased in the number of students achieving mastery or above across all content areas in grades 3-12 by one percent from last year. These improvements reflect the dedication and hard work of our school staff over the past year. 

The increase statewide in proficiency was 2%. The district has the following schools that surpassed the state’s growth in proficiency:

• Amite High School
• Kentwood High School
• Roseland Elementary
• Jewel Sumner High School
• Woodland Park Elementary

Additionally, here are some highlights from our schools regarding growth in the number of students proficient:

In 3-8 ELA, four schools in our district increased by 5% or more. Notably, Spring Creek Elementary achieved double-digit gains:

• Spring Creek Elementary School (12%)
• Midway Elementary School (8%)
• Kentwood High Magnet School (7%)
• Roseland Montessori School (5%)

In 3-8 Math, two schools increased proficiency by 5% or more: 

• Kentwood High Magnet School (7%)
• Ponchatoula Jr. High School (5%)

English I and II: One high school achieved gains of 5% or more:

• Kentwood High Magnet School (7%)

Algebra I and Geometry: Three high schools achieved gains of 5% or more:

• Jewel Sumner High School (7%)
• Kentwood High Magnet School (7%)
• Amite High Magnet School (6%)

US History and Civics: Two high schools achieved gains of 5% or more:

• Jewel Sumner High School (10%)
• Ponchatoula High School (8%)

Superintendent Melissa Stilley said, "These results represent more than just a district-wide gain; they are a clear indicator that the academic strategies we have implemented and the tireless efforts of our educators are gaining real traction. While our ultimate goal remains to push every student toward Mastery and Advanced proficiency, I am incredibly encouraged by the growth we are seeing across the parish. Combined with our DIBELS and PK assessments, these LEAP results clearly demonstrate that we are on the right path to fostering sustained student growth at all grade levels."
