TPSS SUMMER BAND CAMPS

Camp #1   "Keep On Going!"

Register to Attend "keep ON going"

DATES: Monday - Thursday, June 3 - 7, 8:30am - 12:30pm

LOCATION: Greenville Park Leadership Academy

TARGET AUDIENCE: Students who have completed ONE year of band instruction 2023-2024

EMPHASIS: TONE (Characteristic Quality and Range Extension); TUNING (Intonation/Ear Training); TIMING (Rhythmic Studies: Patterns in 2/4, 4/4, 3/4 Time Signatures)

GOALS:

  • Complete Musicianship Level 2/Begin Level 3
  • Scales Development (B-Flat, E-Flat, F  Major; Concert Pitch)
  • Chromatic Scale with recommended Fingering/Sticking Patterns
  • Music Reading and Theory Review
  • Solo Development
  • Ensemble/Chamber Music Development
  • "Fun with Fundamentals" Workshop
  • Full Ensemble Performance

Camp #2   "Go Home And Practice!"

Register to Attend "Go Home & Practice"

DATES: Monday - Thursday, June 3 - 6, 8:30am - 12:30pm

LOCATION: Greenville Park Leadership Academy

TARGET AUDIENCE:  students with 2-3 years music experience. 

EMPHASIS: "3 R's of Musicianship: Reading, Ritin, and 'Rhythmeticin' Music!"

  • Complete Levels 3- 4 of The Achievement System Musicianship Skills
  • Scales Development Concert C. F. B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, and D-Flat; audition-style
  • Chromatic Range Extension
  • Solo Development (Based on Festival Solos Books #1 and#2)
  • Small Ensembles and Chamber Music
  • Performance Preparation on Prescribed Music List Repertoire
  • Melodic and Rhythmic Dictation
  • ENSEMBLE SIGHT-READING Training
  • Recital Performance and Reception

Camp #3   "Live from Center Stage"

Register for "Live from Center Stage"

DATES: Monday - Thursday, June 10 - 13, 8:30am - 12:30pm

LOCATION: Ponchatoula High School Music Building

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Students with 4 or more years music experience.

EMPHASIS:  PERFORMANCE in Various Settings (Alone; Small Group: Large Ensemble)

 GOALS:

  1. Complete/Introduce Levels 5-7 of the Achievement System based on Achievement on Achievement Method Book (Book 3) * Many of the potential students in this camp experience may not, nor will have matriculated through Levels 1-4 in sequential order. By introducing the Aon A material at this point of development attempts to unify and matriculate an ALIGNED CURRICULUM, both horizontally (from school to school) and vertically (through cumulative levels)
  2. Expanded Scales Development (Major- Ionian and Relative Minor-Aeolian Forms), applying Solfege syllables) LMEA HS Requirements : rhythm pattern, minimum tempo, articulations CHROMATIC Scale in Prescribed Ranges per Instrument
  3. Solo Development: Festival Solos Book 3; Concert and Contest Collection; Instrumental Collections as Trumpet Stars, Trombone Gems, etc. 
  4. Prepare Audition Etudes with Mock Auditions (Parish, District, State Level Honor Bands)
  5. Explore Chamber Ensembles (PML and Pop/Patriotic) with Recital Performance
  6. Perform with Large Ensemble (PML Grades 2-4 Repertoire; Patriotic; Scott Joplin: Contemporary)

Camp #4 "Strike Up The Band!"

Register for "Strike Up the Band"

DATES: Monday - Thursday, July 15 -18, 8:30am - 12:30pm

LOCATION: Champ Cooper

TARGET AUDIENCE: Students, with instruments, enrolling in school beginning band (5th -9th grades for the 24-25 school year)

Students should have completed the INSTRUMENT FITTING PROCESS by 15 Jun to ensure that they have an instrument for this camp experience.  In this camp, students will receive:
     - Proper assembly, disassembly, transportation, and storage procedures and routines
     - Hand position and finger placement; Posture
     - EMOBUCHURE TRAINING and TONE PRODUCTION
     - Music Reading and Notation
     - Instruments taught include Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone,  Electric Bass, Percussion (Bells/Xylophone)  (Students beginning on Baritone and         Tuba must provide their own mouthpiece. Consult with Mr. Square)
     - Music Games/ Snack
