TPSS 2024 State Accountability Scores
AMITE, LA — The Tangipahoa Parish School System is proud to announce its 2024 state accountability results, showing notable progress across several key areas, including a significant improvement in the performance of its individual schools. The district’s overall performance continues to rise, reflecting an overall improvement gain of +4.2 points from last year. Over 70%, 23 out of 32 schools, are showing improvement in their school performance scores. The district has more schools landing at the B and C label for accountability and less schools labeled as D or F schools. These results reflect the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and staff in driving academic excellence throughout the parish.

District Performance Highlights (2024 vs. 2023)
• District Performance Score (DPS): The district’s District Performance Score (DPS) has increased to 67.3 in 2024, up from 63.1 in 2023, reflecting an overall improvement of +4.2 points. This puts the district at a C rating, signaling continued growth and achievement across the system.
• K-8 Assessment Index: The district saw a modest increase of +1.2 points, with the K-8 Assessment Index rising to 44.3 in 2024 from 43.1 in 2023.
• High School Assessment Index: The High School Assessment Index grew by +1.0 points, reaching 46.6 in 2024, compared to 45.6 in 2023.
• High School ACT Index: The district’s High School ACT Index showed a slight decrease of -.4 points, now standing at 52.3 compared to 52.7 in 2023.
• Strength of Diploma Index: The Strength of Diploma Index saw a significant improvement, rising by +12.1 points, from 77.7 in 2023 to 89.8 in 2024, indicating enhanced academic rigor and college preparedness.

District Accountability Data: Comparing 2024 to 2023
Cohort Graduation Rate Index (2022-2023 Cohort)
• Cohort Graduation Rate Index: The district made substantial strides in its Cohort Graduation Rate Index, which increased by +24.8 points, from 62.0 in 2023 to 86.8 in 2024.
• Cohort Graduation Rate (Actual): The district’s graduation rate has also shown impressive growth, improving by +9.2 percentage points, from 68.9% in 2023 to 78.1% in 2024.
School Performance Improvements
• 23 out of 32 Schools Improve: Of the 32 public schools in Tangipahoa Parish, 23 showed improvement in their school performance scores. This represents over 70% of the district’s schools, a testament to the dedication of teachers, students, and the broader community in working together to raise academic standards across the parish. Seven schools took a slight dip in their School Performance Scores, most with less than one percent decrease.
• OW Dillion: OW Dillion experienced the highest growth in the district, improving by nearly 10 points and moving from an F school to a D school in just one year, reflecting an extraordinary turnaround.
• Amite Westside Middle School: Amite Westside Middle School showed impressive growth, moving from an F school to a D school, demonstrating strong progress in student achievement.
• Spring Creek Elementary and Sumner High School: These schools saw significant improvements as well. Each transitioned from a C school to a B school, marking a remarkable achievement in academic performance. Independence High School moved from a D School to a C School making significant strides in academic achievement. Independence High School had almost double digit growth in just one year with +9.3 points increase from 2023 to 2024.
Superintendent’s Statement:
“We are extremely proud of the progress we’ve made this year, particularly with so many of our schools showing marked improvement,” said Tangipahoa Parish Superintendent, Melissa M. Stilley. “The growth at OW Dillon, Amite Westside, and other schools is a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our educators, students, and families. These improvements reflect the positive momentum in our district, and while we celebrate these gains, we remain focused on continuing to support all students and ensure that every school continues on a path of academic success.”
Board President’s Statement:
Brett K. Duncan, President of the Tangipahoa Parish School Board, expressed his pride in the district’s achievements, stating, “These results are a direct reflection of the collective efforts of our teachers, administrators, parents, and students. The improvement in school performance across our district is something we can all be proud of as we watch many of our low performing schools increase their percentage of students who are proficient in reading and math. Our Board remains committed to supporting all schools in the district, and we are excited to continue working together to ensure our students have every opportunity to succeed.”
Moving Forward:
The district will continue to focus on our three priorities of student attendance at school, effective teaching and learning in our core instruction with interventions for students, and ensuring a secure, safe, positive learning environment for our students and employees. We know that by doing these things with fidelity, we will continue to see even more student growth next year in our schools and district.
