Dear Parents and Community:
It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed principal of Lucille Nesom Memorial. I am honored to lead a school I have loved and held dear to my heart over the past five years as assistant principal. As we continue into this school year, I will continue to be dedicated to the students, parents, and Tickfaw Community. Along with teachers and staff, I will work hard to provide academic experiences that are rigorous and relevant, helping students build relationships while making real-word connections. My focus this year will be to set high standards for teacher performance, increased academic expectations for all students, and galvanize community involvement. Some educational initiatives we will utilize are: the use of data to drive instruction, technology-based interventions, and school-wide teaching strategies to ensure implementation of district curriculum with fidelity.
At Nesom, we believe it is everyone’s responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful and responsible. Therefore, as your principal, it is important to me that everyone, who steps on our campus, feels welcomed and excited to be here. This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. With this in mind, you are invited to be an active participant at Lucille Nesom Memorial School. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of the PTO, sponsor, or a community partner, you are encouraged to be involved! Research on schools clearly reports that parental involvement has a direct effect on academic success.
It is our desire to keep you informed of all that is taking place at school. Up-to-date and additional information will be sent to you though our monthly calendar, school messenger automated calling system, and will appear on our school’s website. Please know that my door is always opened. Feel free to call or email me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year. You can reach me at Samantha.Austin@tangischools.org or 985-345-2166. With everyone working together, I know we will have an academically successful school year.
Samantha M. Austin, Ed.D.
