Pre-Diploma Programme (PDP)
The Pre-Diploma Programme
What is PDP?
The Pre-Diploma Programme (PDP) was developed by HHMS staff to provide a unique and rigorous program of study to prepare students for the IB Diploma Program in year 11 and 12. In a PDP class, the content is often more advanced and the pace is heightened. Furthermore, students in PDP classes are given the opportunity to practice mini- mock assessments designed to help scaffold student learning and prepare them for Diploma Programme assessments.
How can students benefit from the PDP?
PDP students have a higher tendency to be successful full-diploma students in the DP. Students note that their involvement in the PDP program not only prepares them for the rigors of the DP, but also teaches them to be more global conscious citizens.
What kind of student is a good candidate for the PDP?
The PDP program is a rigorous program that requires a determined student who is willing to work hard to succeed. The key success indicators for PDP students are a student's commitment to become a life-long learner and their inclination to be organized in order to balance their lifestyle.
Do PDP students have time for anything beyond academics?
PDP students will be required to spend time outside of school on their academics; however, often many PDP students are also heavily involved in their communities, arts, athletics, and various clubs and organizations.
Do PDP teachers receive special training?
All PDP teachers have been trained in the Diploma Programme course students are being prepared to enroll in. Furthermore, PDP teachers receive continued professional development in the IB's approaches to teaching and learning.
Can you give an example of how the PDP program is different than on-level or honors courses?
The curriculum for each subject has been crafted to challenge students beyond the on-level or honors curriculum at HHMS. Students will participate in a wide range of experiences that promote project-based learning, and support the aims of the Diploma Programme subjects. Furthermore, students will be able to experience DP-like assessments appropriate for their grade-level to prepare them for the real assessments given in the Diploma Programme.
