    STUDENT TRANSFERS AND ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY


    Parents and students should be aware that under the 2020 Mutual Consent Agreement Plan, athletic eligibility for students attending a school outside the attendance zone in which they reside shall be subject to the rules of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. Student athletic eligibility for students returning to their attendance zone school from a transfer school shall be subject to the rules of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
     
     

    2021-2022 Student Transfer Information 
    Transfer Applications Open on April 1st

    The Tangipahoa Parish School System will continue to offer families the option of applying for transfers for their students to attend school outside their home attendance zones for the 2021-2022 school year.  Applications must be completed online at www.tangischools.org and will be accepted during the period of April  1 - June 1, 2021.  Student Transfer options:

    MAGNET TRANSFER

    • A student may apply for a Magnet Transfer to attend one of the district’s magnet schools.
    • A Letter of Intent to Return must be submitted by current magnet students for each new school year.
    • Transportation is provided by the district.

    ACADEMIC TRANSFER 

    • A student may apply for an Academic Transfer if he or she wishes to attend a district high school other than his or her home attendance zone school for the following purposes: (1) to enroll in a TOPS recognized course or courses, or (2) to take an Advanced Placement course or courses not offered at his or her attendance zone school.
    • The student or his/her parent or guardian is responsible for transportation.

    JROTC TRANSFER 

    • High school students may apply for a JROTC Transfer in order to attend a school offering a JROTC Program not offered at their home attendance zone school. 
    • The student or his/her parent or guardian is responsible for transportation.

    DIVERSITY TRANSFER 

    • Students in grades K-12 may apply for a Diversity Transfer from one school (sending school) to another (receiving school) where the resulting impact will be desegregation and socio-economic and cultural diversity of the receiving school. 
    • Diversity Transfers in grades K-12 automatically renew each year to the schools within the feeder pattern until graduation. 
    • Parents/legal guardians who wish to discontinue their student’s Diversity Transfer may do so by completing the Diversity Transfer Withdrawal  before July 15 or before December 15. 
    • Transportation is provided to schools within attendance zones.

    SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT BASED ON EMPLOYMENT OF PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN (TAGALONGS) TRANSFER 
    Children of school employees may attend the school in which the employee works and schools within the said school’s feeder pattern. The parent, guardian, or student shall be responsible for transportation.

    EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES TRANSFER
    Shall be available when a school’s principal and the superintendent deem that extraordinary circumstances exist and a transfer is in the student’s best interest. If approved, the transfer school shall be designated by the Superintendent. Parents should contact their child’s principal before applying for an Extraordinary Circumstances Transfers.
