Independence Middle Magnet School hosted it's annual Open House on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Parents reported to homeroom classes to view an Open House Broadcast featuring students on the school's broadcast team. Parents were then free to meet all teachers by following student schedules. The PTA membership is in full swing, and we encourage all parents to join. IMMS welcome you to visit us anytime!

Ms. Devona Sandifer's 5th and 6th Grade Science students at O.W. Dillon Elementary School wrote their personal goals for science over the 2015-16 school year, then combined them to make a dinosaur display in the hallway. They want to let everyone know they are learning science one step at a time!
HEM students are being taught “At Hammond Eastside, I show integrity, confidence, and curiosity in learning. CHANGE begins with me!”. Teachers and students focus on a different attribute from the Learner Profile each week. At the end of the week, teachers give a Shout OUT!! to students and colleagues who have demonstrated excellence with the attribute. August 10th -14th’s attribute was CARING. The following students were seen by others being caring: Khalil Espadron, grade 2; Annaleigh Rowle, grade 1; Guy Rocker, grade 2; and Fred Grant, grade 3. Fourth grade teachers, Latasha Duplessis and LaQuinta Barnes also received shout outs for being caring.

On Tuesday, August 25, Independence Middle Magnet School held its first Meet the Tiger event. Students, parents, faculty, and staff participated in the event to introduce the 15-16 student athletes for this year's IMMS football team. Everyone was treated to free hot dogs, explored an obstacle course, and completed football drills. Over 300 people attended this event. We would like to thank everyone who participated and supported IMMS. We are looking forward to a successful season.
