    The Tangipahoa Parish School Board will hold a 30-hour pre-service training course to become certified as a Louisiana School Bus Operator.

    Where: Tangipahoa Parish School System, Technology Center, 795 South Morrison Boulevard, Hammond, LA 70403

    When: March 11-14 8:30AM-3:30PM

    What to Bring: Bring paper and pen to take notes.

    Bus Attendant Class: February 21 8:30AM-3:30PM

     All sessions must be attended to complete the course.  

    In addition to this class, drivers must obtain a class A or B commercial driver’s license with the "S" and "P" endorsements and be air brake certified. Registration is not required.

Bus Driver Stipend Schedule

  • Bus Driver's Stipend Schedule

    Bus Driver stipends will be calculated on the nine-month Parish Salary Schedule plus applicable operational allowance as provided for in their "School Bus Lease", which is as follows:

    State Operational Schedule (Transportation Expense) 
    + $850 Local Fixed Operator Allowance * 
    + $0.26 Local One-way Mileage (Fuel Adjustment) 
    + $1,500 Special Equipment Allowance 
    + $900 Air Conditioner Allowance*** 

    * The additional $100 added to the Fixed Operational Allowance in the 1996-97 Salary Schedule includes reimbursement for the following:

    Inspection Sticker$20.00 
    Inservice Training$24.00 
    Physical Exam $75.00 
    CDL License $30.00 

    Physical Exam reimbursement increased from $50 to $75 effective with the 2014-15 Salary Schedule.

    ** Local Fuel Price Mileage will be recalculated monthly to take into consideration fluctuations in fuel prices. Drivers will be compensated each month based 

    *** For buses assigned with medically fragile students whose IEP requires their placement on an air condition equipped bus

    Extra-Curricular Bus Trips 
     
    Salary*: 
    $12.00/hour, with a minimum of $25 per trip 
    $300 flat rate for 24-hour overnight travel (includes meals and lodging)

    $2.00 - $2.50 $1.40 per mile ($2.00 / 5.0 MPG + $1.00)
    $2.50 - $3.00 $1.50 per mile ($2.50 / 5.0 MPG + $1.00)
    $3.00 - $3.50 $1.60 per mile ($3.00 / 5.0 MPG +$1.00)
    $3.50 - $4.00 $1.70 per mile ($3.50 / 5.0 MPG +$1.00)
    $4.00 - $4.50 $1.80 per mile ($4.00 / 5.0 MPG + $1.00)


    EFFECTIVE 08/15/2003, SCHOOL BUS OPERATORS WILL RECEIVE OPERATIONAL ALLOWANCE FOR THE LEASE OF THEIR SCHOOL BUS EQUIPMENT AT A RATE NOT LESS THAN 20.0 ONE-WAY MILES FOR ALL COMPONENTS EXCEPT FOR THE LOCAL FUEL ADJUSTMENT WHICH WILL BE BASED ON ACTUAL ONE-WAY MILEAGE.
