The Tangipahoa Parish School System "Student of theYear" is Louis Nix. Louis is a senior at Hammond High Magnet School. He is involved in many activities, clubs and organizations such as soccer, a member of the National Honor Society, the drum major for the HHMS band, a Key Club member and Beta Club member. Louis is a great role model for others. He is a dedicated student who is always positive with his peers and teachers. He plans on majoring in International Relations in college. He has yet to decide if he will attend Rice University or Northwestern College to pursue his future plans.We know that any university will gain a true asset with having Louis as part of their student body. HHMS and Tangipahoa Parish School System are very proud of Louis!
Devin King from Sumner High School won the National Championship in the pole vault recently at the New Balance National High School Championships in New York. Devin also broke the National record with a vault of 17 feet 10 1/2 inches, breaking the old record of Andrew Irwin of Arkansas of 17 feet 9 1/4" from 2011. Devin has been nominated for the "Most Impressive National Record Performance."Mrs. Cat Donnow's class at Hammond Westside Montessori grew delicious, organic strawberries. They were on their way to take them to their Principal, Mrs. Cathy LeBlanc, and the temptation was too great! The good news is that they did save her a delicious berry!
