Krewe of Omega celebrates Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Rangers. Woodland Park students who displayed excellent behavior were able to attend a Mardi Gras parade led by members of the Krewe of Omega and faculty/staff of Woodland Park Elementary Magnet School.
Hammond Eastside Elementary Magnet School facilitated a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) activity on Thursday, February 27th for students in grades 1-3. Doughlicious Donuts donated 42 dozen donuts, 504 donuts total, to our school for this event, so that students could decorate the donuts making their very own king cakes. They proudly display their creations in the featured picture. On 2/5/14 the Independence High Welding Team: Rickey LaPine, Jesse Powell, PaulLiuzza, and Landon Woods competed in the District Welding Competition in Greensburg. They placed 1st and 2nd. Rickey Lapine and Jesse Powell placed 1st, Jesse took 1st place overall and Rickey took 2nd placed overall. 2nd place went to Paul Liuzza and Landon Woods. Paul placed 3rd overall and Landon placed 4th overall.
On2/7/14 they traveled to Baton Rouge for the Area IV Competition. Rickey and Jesse took 1st place. Rickey took 1st place overall.
On 3/6/14 Rickey and Jesse traveled to Baton Rouge for the State Welding Competition where they took 1st place in the competition with Rickey taking 1st overall and Jesse taking 3rd overall. The welding team will travel to St.Rose on 4/4/14 to compete in the St. Rose Welding Competition.Loranger Elementary was visited recently by a Gold Medalist in the World Indoor Track Championship in Poland. Cassandra Tate, who is a Loranger High School 2008 graduate, runs the 4 x 400 meter track event. Ms. Tate has a niece in Catherine O'Rourke's classroom at LES and wanted to visit the class to share her experiences with the children.Students from Kentwood High Magnet School that received high ACT scores, showed exceptional academic growth, and performed well at the Literary Rally attended the Broadway musical "Memphis" at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on Saturday, March 15, 2014. The students were accompanied by teachers Sheldran Taylor, Karen Mizell, and Desiree Wardsworth.Amite High School Beta Club collected 132 pairs of eyeglasses that will be taken to Thailand this week by eye doctors and a mission team. Temporary clinics will be set up so that eyeglasses and medications may be distributed directly to the needy in Thailand.Loranger High cheerleaders received a 4th place at the National Competition recently. They also received a 2nd place silver medal for the Game Day Competition as well. Congratulations.Mrs. Ambrose's Pre-K/K class at Hammond Westside Montessori School celebrated St. Patrick's Day by reading books to learn about its history. After learning all about St. Patrick's Day and its traditions they completed rotations where they used the 100's chart to create leprechaun hats, learned primary and secondary colors through making edible crafts and finger painting. They also used their labeling skills and created necklaces in the traditional St. Patrick's Day colors.Independence High Agriculture 2 class is planting tomatoes, peppers and onions….get ready to come get some!
The Ponchatoula High School Science Olympiad Team recently participated in the State Science Olympiad held at Southeastern Louisiana University on March 29. The team is under the direction of Dr. Jerry Coleman, Physicist.
