Dads, Moms, Grandmothers, and Grandfathers joined together at Independence Elementary to show their children how important school is and to spend some quality time together. Mr. Timothy Jackson, coordinator for All Pro Dad’s presented information on the value of working hard. Parents were invited to share struggles in their school
years with the children. One parent expressed her difficulty as a child
with Mathematics and how she has tried to help her children by using resources
provided by the district/school and staying in communication with her child’s

Students in Joshua Blackwell's 8th Grade Science class at Sumner Middle School listen to music without speakers using a process called "Bone Conduction". Bone Conduction was discovered by the almost completely deaf, but famous composer, Ludwig van Beethoven. On Monday, January 14th, students at Independence Elementary enjoyed to local authors (Joanne Mehrtens and Pat Roig) as they talked to students about the writing process while exposing them to one of their newest books Bless You Bugs. The authors visited last year and introduced the students to the stars of their book Ralph and Roxanne Roach. Students used their creative thinking skills to design an orginal animal cell. This project was a fun creative way to teach students where each part of the cell was located.
