The students are currently working on rubbings with crayons. 1st - 3rd grades will be creating a picture with a fish. 4th - 6th grade are creating a picture with leaf rubbings. There are no assignments for the Thanksgiving holiday. However, there is an aviation contest that will be coming up in January. I am putting a link to the site where you can get information: http://www.dotd.la.gov/intermodal/aviation/2013_Art_Contest/2013_ART_Contest_Brochure.pdfPlease be aware of any air events (air shows, balloons, hang gliding, etc) wherever you are over vacation that might give your child an idea to enter this contest. It is NOT mandatory for the children to do.Another idea for fun over the vacation is salt dough. This is something you can make at home and following the directions the mess should be minimal:SALT DOUGH3 cups of flour1 cup of salt1 cup of waterfood coloring (optional01 gallon size zip lock heavy duty bagPut the 3 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt in the bag. Zip it shut and blend the salt and flour together. Once that is finished open the bag and put the water in. If you want your dough colored add the food coloring to the water before adding the water to the bag. Zip the bag shut trying to get most of the air out of the bag. Squeeze the mixture in the bag blending it. As it gets harder you will need to knead the dough. If the dough is too dry add water a little at a time. If it is too wet add flour. This can be rolled out like cookie dough and cut with cookie cutters to make ornaments. Use a straw to put a hole in it for hanging. Let creations air dry. You may want to turn them over the next day. Store any unused dough in the bag in the refrigerator.
There is a new art Gallery in Amite. It is on the corner of Hwy 16 at the railroad tracks across from the Shell gas station. At the moment they have an exhibit of student art from Amite Elementary.
