In an effort to make the transition from summertime back to school a seamless one, Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley announced today that the district is now accepting applications for special transportation requests.

Stilley said parents and caregivers work hard during the summer to make plans for what their students will be doing after school.

“Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with families to make the transition from summer schedule to back to school an easy and hassle-free one,” Stilley said. “We asked our departments to brainstorm how we can create a smoother start to the school year, and our transportation team suggested we open applications for special transportation requests now so that they will be approved and in place for the first week of school.”

So what is a special transportation request? These applications refer to requests for a bus driver to pick up a child at a pre-approved location for regular morning or afternoon transportation service. Frequently, these locations involve daycares, tutoring sites, or after-school programs. These requests are not one-time-only or once-a-week transportation arrangements. These requests involve pick up or drop off locations that are used throughout the week every morning or every afternoon.

Stilley said the process is simple:

Families who require special transportation to or from school are asked to fill out the request form which is online at https://www.tangischools.org/Page/2345. Forms may be completed online and emailed to bus@tangischools.org or hand-delivered to the school or the TPSS Central Office Transportation Department (59656 Puleston Road, Amite, LA 70422). Stilley reminds parents to be sure to ask for a copy of your completed form for your files if you hand deliver it.

Special transportation requests must be submitted to the Tangipahoa Parish School System Transportation Department or to your child’s principal by July 19 in order for those requests to be approved in time for the Aug. 12 start of school. Requests that come in after that date will not be processed until the new school year has begun.

For more information, contact the TPSS Transportation Department at (985) 748-2423 or (985) 748-2460, or email bus@tangischools.org.

    Moving Up Day 2019 -

    Moving Up Day 2019

Thank you Mrs. Kurtz for making this awesome movie! Moving up day at Roseland Montessori School has become an end of year tradition that was started by Mrs. Kay Saragusa a few years ago. Students go to the next grade level for 1 hour to meet the teachers and get a feel for the next grade level. 8th graders go to a high school and 7th graders meet with administration. The Montessori philosophy values the adolescents' leadership role within the school community. In accordance with this Montessori philosophy and as a believer of hearing the stakeholders' voices, Mrs. Vaccaro uses this moving up day opportunity to begin my planning for the upcoming school year. Seventh graders form groups to participate in a round table discussion on various topics about the school. This information is then used to initiate conversation among the parent focus group members and the staff at the back to school faculty meeting.
