SUMNER HIGH SCHOOL CELL PHONE POLICY

 

 

"Should cell phones be seen, used or heard for any purpose during the regular school day, the student will receive consequences of steps 2 through 6 on the assertive discipline ladder at the discretion of the administrator." *

Should a cell phone be heard for any purpose during the regular school day, the cell phone will be taken from the student. The cell phone may be picked up by the parent or guardian. The parent or guardian shall be contacted by phone or mail. The student also will receive consequences as follows:

1st violation - Corporal punishment or one (1) day of in-school suspension. *

2nd violation - Corporal punishment or three (3) days of in-school suspension. *

3rd violation - Three (3) days of out of school suspension. The principal or his designee may require a parent conference before the student may return to school.            

4th violation - Five (5) days out of school suspension. Parent must accompany the student back to school for a conference with the principal or his designee.                           

5th violation - The student will be suspended until a due process hearing for expulsion is he with the superintendent's designee.

*The student will not be put into in-school suspension if that student has already been in ISSP three times during the school year, in which case the student will receive out of school' suspension.

2. Should a cell phone be used in any manner during the regular school day, the cell phone will be taken from the student. For purposes of this policy, the term "use" shall mean whenever the cell phone is being read or manipulated in any manner by the student. The cell phone may be

picked up by the parent or guardian. The parent or guardian shall be contacted by phone or mail. The student also will receive consequences as follows:

1st violation - One (l) day of Saturday detention or one (1) day of out of school suspension.

2nd violation - Three (3) days of out of school suspension.

3rd violation - Three (3) days of out of school suspension. The principal or his designee may require a parent conference before the student may return to school. 4th violation - Five (5) days out of school suspension. Parent must accompany the student back to school for a conference with the principal or his designee.

5th violation - The student will be suspended until a due process hearing for expulsion is held with the superintendent's designee.
