Dear
Parents
10-05-09
Your student’s
schedule in my Computer Literacy will be changing
slightly beginning this week. Students at PJHS will
be participating in a LEAP Remediation class that
will be integrated into my Computer Literacy class.
For the next four six-weeks, we will be using
Thursday and Friday to review, practice and
reinforce English Language Arts and Math skills that
will be tested on the LEAP Test April 12-16, 2010.
Our Computer
Literacy class will now only be held Monday, Tuesday
and Wednesday of each week. I will give out Study
Guides on Monday and students will have class time
to complete the Study Guide. Tuesday we will review
the answers to the study guide and complete
assignments in class that will reinforce those
concepts. On Wednesday, we will complete another
assignment or finish the one began on Tuesday and
take the weekly Quiz. Because two class days will be
replaced with LEAP Remediation, your student will
have to grasp concepts more quickly than in the
first six-weeks. The Study Guide given to the
student on Monday will cover everything on the Quiz.
However, it is essential that your student review
his or her Study Guide nightly to prepare for the
Quiz on Wednesday.
The Programs we
will be using for LEAP Remediation will be Study
Island and My Skills Tutor. Both are excellent
Internet based programs which focus on the core
topics that are tested on LEAP. Your student is very
lucky to have this extra help available to him/ her.
Both programs are available after school and on the
weekend if students would like to practice
additional skills at home. However, I will require
that the students stay on the topic that the entire
class has been assigned. So if a student works on
“Topic C” over the weekend and I assign that on
Thursday, he or she will complete that topic again.
This allows me to focus on one topic at a time and
to be able to re-teach and provide help to as many
students at the same time as possible. It can be
difficult to provide individual instruction in a
timely manner to a class of 20 or more students.
Having all students on the same topic make the best
use of the 50 minutes I have in each class.
If you would like
your student to practice at home, below are the web
addresses and Student Login information. Thank you
for your support and feel free to e-mail or call if
you have questions concerning your student or this
program.
Many thanks,
Juanita Lee
