On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m., the American bomber Enola Gay dropped a nuclear bomb aptly named "Little Boy" on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The result was disastrous. Over 65,000 people were killed and another 76,000 injured. Though the necessity of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are still debated, they did bring about a swift end to World War II, which was their most important goal.
