Introduction

Learn about one or more of the above six endangered animals.
 
 



The Task

Locate information about the endangered animal of your choice. Tell the following:
                       your animal's name
                       show a picture of your animal
                       where your animal lives
                       why your animal is endangered
                       about how many of your animal is still alive
                       how to protect your animal

For your final project, you will design a trading card on your animal using PrintShop  (**NOTE: Student should have knowledge of using PrintShop. **)



The Process
The teacher will assign groups of 4-6 students per group.
        Each group member must pick a different endangered animal.
        Gather information about your animal from the 
              following links:
              BLACK BEAR          RHINOCEROS
                     COUGAR                         GORILLA
                     ELEPHANT                     CHEETAH
 

        On a data sheet record your information:
               1.  Animal's name
               2.  Animal's habitat and location
               3.  Number still in existence 
                      (how many are still alive)
               4.  Endangered because....
               5.  Write a sentence or two telling how you can 
                      help save your animal.
         Save a picture of your animal from the internet on your 
                      3.5 floppy disk to put onto your trading card.
         Use your data sheet to complete your trading card.

         MAKING YOUR TRADING CARD:
               1. Open PrintShop, then POSTCARD, 
                   choose TALL and 4 cards per sheet.
               2. Use HEADLINE to type in your animal's name.
               3. Insert your animal's picture under it's name.
               4. Use 5 different TEXTBOXES to type in your 
                  information: habitat and location, 
                                    number alive, 
                                    why endangered, 
                                    how to save the animal,
                                    Trading Card designed by
                                                      YOUR NAME
               5. Print your trading card. 
               6. Hand in your data sheet and 1 trading card.
               7. The other 3 trading cards are:
                                   1 for your,
                                   2 to trade with your classmates.
 
 



Evaluation

         Your ENDANGERED SPECIES TRADING CARD project will be graded on the following:
                      Information sheet is worth....................... 40 points
                     Completed trading card........................... 40 points
                     Telling the class about your animal......... 20 points

                                                       TOTAL POINTS      100 points



Conclusion

Students should have complete knowledge of the facts gathered on their animals. The students should be knowledgable of the facts gathered from 2 other animals for the 2 trading cards collected from classmates. Students should have a understanding of the importance of saving and protecting animals from becoming endangered.
