Introduction

 

You are about to have a student from another country come to live with your family until summer vacation.  He has never traveled to the United States before and has asked you many questions about the stories of historical sites and symbols in America.  You have come up with the idea to have an easy-to- read poster for your friend to use as a reference.  Your challenge will be to find the symbols and give a brief history of each in poster format so you can help your foreign friend learn about our great country!! 
 
 
 
 



The Task



·  Your task is to gather a collection of symbols and historical stories associated with each.

·  Use links to find and save symbols of the

·  a.  Statue of Liberty

·  b.  United States Flag

·  c.  Liberty Bell

·  d.  Great Seal

·  e.  Bald Eagle

·  Using these links, list at least 2 facts about each symbol.

·  Create a poster that has the symbols and facts.

·  · 



The Process

 

1.  Go to the internet sites to search for the symbols you will use on your poster.  Use each symbol a-e.  You will right click on the picture of your choice, then left click to Copy.  Save to 3 1/2 floppy.  Last, print your symbols by going to File and Print.

2. Go to the sites and find at least 2 facts about each symbol.  You will go to Microsoft Word and type your facts.  Save to 3 1/2 floppy.  Go to File and Print.

3.  Using the printed symbols and facts, create your poster of Symbols of the United States.

You will be graded on having 5 different picture symbols and at least 2 facts for each symbol on your poster.

Conclusion

 

By completing this project, you will be able to see actual pictures of these symbols, view maps of the locations of these historical sites, and even go on virtual tours.  You will be able to discuss interesting facts and stories associated with our nation.  You may be able to find a great site with even more interesting facts and stories.  Here s a great interactive site about two well-known symbols in U.S. history &George Washington and the dollar bill! Have fun, and keep our class posted on what you find!!
