2009 American Civil Liberties Union Youth Activist Scholarship

The ACLU will be selecting 16 high school students to receive a scholarship in the amount of $12,500 each. The winners of the scholarship will have the opportunity to attend two Youth Activist Leadership Institute trainings to equip them with the tools and skills they need to continue their civil liberties work on their campuses and in their communities. Career Builders of Louisiana 6th Annual STEM Camp

Career Builders of Louisiana wants to expose female students to the careers within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math industries at their 6th Annual STEM Camp. Davidson College in North Carolina provides a new financial aid package to all enrolled students. They pledge to meet 100 % of a student’s demonstrated financial need entirely with grants and work study, thereby eliminating the need for student loans. FAFSA on the Web

Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for the TOPS program and any other scholarship programs, as well as financial aid. Students may apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The priority deadline is May 1, 2009 and the parents’ 2008 income tax w-2 form is used for reporting income.

Florida A&M University African-American Women in Computer Science

Florida A&M University is providing an outstanding opportunity for Black women entering college in the fall of 2009. It is designed to address their absence in the field of computer technology. Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association Youth Scholarship

Attention seniors who have a parent that is an active-duty Law Enforcement or Fire Service Personnel: The Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association is sponsoring a Youth Scholarship and will be awarding $1,000 and $500 to the top two seniors in the state. The First place winner for Louisiana will be eligible for one of three National Awards. For more information go to www.llssa.org.
Louisiana Lions Camp Junior Counselor Employment

The Louisiana Lions Camp is currently recruiting high school students, ages 16 and above to fill summer staff positions. There are Junior Counselor positions available for 16 and 17 year-old students. Students age 18 and above may apply for Senior Counselor and Activity Instructor positions, and those with current certifications may apply for Lifeguard positions. The camp runs six weeks starting the second week of June. Graduating seniors may also apply for one of ten $500 scholarships which are awarded at the end of the season.
Louisiana Youth Seminar

Louisiana Youth Seminar will be held at LSU from July 19-24, 2009. LYS is a weeklong program designed to further develop core leadership skills, such as effective communication, problem solving, public speaking, working with others, strong values and character. Lela’s GoFAAM Website

Lela created the GoFAAM website as an online resource center for financial aid information for high school students. By visiting www.GoFAAM.com seniors can fill out their FAFSA, find out about financial aid workshops in their area and submit their FAAM contest essays. LSU College of Engineering Office of Diversity Programs – XCITE & REHAMS

The Louisiana State University College of Engineering Office of Diversity Programs is proud to announce the 2009 Pre-College Summer Programs, XCITE and REHAMS. XCITE, Exploration Camp for Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers, is a two-week, residential day program designed to introduce promising female high school students to LSU and the field of engineering. This camp will be held July 6-17. REHAMS, Recruitment into Engineering of High-Ability Multicultural Students, is also a two-week residential day program offering academically talented minority students the opportunity to examine first-hand the activities and thought processes characteristic of engineering. LSU Global Studies Residential College
Announced: November 4
Global Studies is a residential option for LSU freshmen and sophomores. It is designed for students who are interested in International affairs, foreign languages, or would enjoy interaction with students of diverse backgrounds and cultures. When possible, American students will be paired to room with international students who speak the foreign language the American student is studying, or has studied in high school. By residing together in the residence hall, students involved in the program will gain several advantages offered by LSU’s residential colleges. LSU Pelican Promise Scholarship

LSU is offering a Pelican Promise Scholarship. It is a need-based award program designed to attract and support Louisiana students who are economically disadvantaged and academically qualified. Eligibility for the Pelican Promise will be determined once the student has completed the FASFA and applied for all state, federal and LSU resources. Miss Black Louisiana Scholarship Pageant

Miss Black Louisiana, USA organization is one of the state’s leading and foremost successful scholarship programs providing assistance to young women of color. The goal is to promote educational, financial, and leadership status state wide and on a national level with the African-American community. The organization promotes a pageant that allows women of color the opportunity to display their beauty, talents and accomplishments. Eligible candidates must be a resident of Louisiana during the year of the pageant, be between 18 and 27, single and never have been married, and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher at the time of application. Miss Louisiana Teen USA Scholarship Pageant

Information for the 2010 Miss Louisiana Teen America Scholarship Pageant being held on October 30 & 31, 2009 is posted in the counselors’ files. The pageant is open to young ladies between the age of 14 & 19 who feel they could represent PHS and our community. North Oaks Health System’s Junior Volunteer Program

North Oaks Hospital has a Junior Volunteer Program designed to offer young people, ages 14 through 17, a chance for community service and career exploration. Our Lady of the Lake College Franciscan Scholarships

Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge has Franciscan Scholarships for seniors available. Coupled with the TOPS Scholarship and Board of Trustees Honors Scholarships, the Franciscan Scholars Scholarship is designed to cover tuition and mandatory fees. Scholarships are automatically renewed at the end of each year for four years or eight semesters if the recipient remains eligible. Applications are available in the folder in the counselors’ office.

Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program

Summer Leadership Institute for High School Students
Run Dates: January 7, 2009
The Summer Leadership Institute for High School Students is a partnership between the University of Mississippi’s Lott Leadership Institute and the Division of Outreach’s Summer College for High School Students. Student leaders from across the Southeast are brought in to earn college credit on the University of Mississippi campus and to begin the study of leadership. Students must be an eleventh grade student in good academic and conduct standing at the time of admission and must have 15 high school credits with at least a 3.2 GPA. The dates for the seminars are May 25-June 26, 2009 and June 28-July 30, 2009. For more information, see the folder in the counselor’s office.
