ADVANCED BAND, BRASS, WOODWINDS, PERCUSSION
A study of the literature of the periods of music with rehearsal and performance
on the highest level achievable. This band performs at all football games
and other activities concerning the school that requires the presence of a
band. Attendance and attitude are very important. Prerequisite: Prior band
experience recommended. There is a $45 fee required.
JAZZ ENSEMBLE
Jazz Ensemble is a study of jazz band literature through performance and application.
It is, also, basic music theory and composition. Students must also be in
advanced band or have the permission of the band director. There is a $15
fee required.
ADVANCED CHOIR (1 credit)
Prerequisite: One year membership in Vocal Ensemble or equivalent music experience
is mandatory in order for students to audition. Advanced Choir (Chamber Singers)
is an auditioned choral ensemble that is devoted to choral excellence. Students
who are selected to this elite ensemble will be expected to integrate all
previous choral experience with a new level of professionalism and excellence.
Due to the level of intensity, students should not consider membership in
this ensemble unless they have a passion for standard choral repertoire and
are willing to work towards perfection. Students will be expected to sing
a variety of sacred, secular, and/or holiday songs. Concert attire is required,
costing approximately $125.00. Auditions are held annually in the spring for
members of choir who want to advance in the choral program.
BEGINNING CHOIR (1 credit)
No previous experience in necessary. Beginning Choir (Vocal Ensemble) is a
non-auditioned ensemble comprised of incoming freshmen interested in choral
music and students with limited choral experience. Students will be expected
to learn basic music theory skills, basic vocal techniques, elementary ensemble
singing, appropriate rehearsal behavior, and concert etiquette. In addition,
students will learn to play the soprano recorder in order to reinforce theory
and music reading skills. Students will be expected to sing a variety of sacred,
secular, and/or holiday songs. One year of membership in Vocal Ensemble in
mandatory for membership in other choral groups.
INTERMEDIATE CHOIR (1 credit)
Prerequisite: One year of membership in Vocal Ensemble or equivalent music
experience is mandatory for placement. Intermediate Choir (Concert Choir)
is director-selected group of choral students who are prepared to move to
the next level of choral music development. Skills acquired in Vocal Ensemble
(or equivalent experience) will continue to be developed and in addition,
students will be expected to sing a variety of sacred, secular, and/or holiday
songs. Concert attire is required, costing approximately $65.00.
FINE ARTS SURVEY
Recommended for the college-bound student - 12th grade. Students learn more
about the arts (music, drama, art, dance, etc.)
