In addition to the courses described below, Industrial Arts Technology students
participate in TSA - Technology Student Association leadership conferences,
district and state competitions plus the national convention.
Some of the Industrial Arts Technology classes have a mandatory OSHA (Occupational
Safety and Health Administration) component in General Industry (course number
501) giving the participating students the opportunity to earn a valid lifetime
OSHA General Industry 501 Completion Card to be used in the workplace as a
credential in safety education. Class work, safety packet and an OSHA safety
proficiency test will be required for students to be registered with the OSHA
authorization office under the instructor's name. Mandatory OSHA components
are included in: Basic Wood Technology, Advanced Wood Technology, Construction
Technology, and Welding Technology.
ADVANCED WOOD TECHNOLOGY (1 credit)
Prerequisite: Basic Wood Technology and instructor approval. One unit of elective
credit course for grades 11-12 with emphasis on safety, materials, processes,
and products of construction, engineering, industry and manufacturing. Planning,
production, quality control and marketing are covered as well as career opportunities.
There is a lab fee of $20.00. Mandatory OSHA components are included in this
class. See the above explanation.
ADVANCED TECHNICAL DRAFTING (1 credit)
Perquisite: Basic Technical Drafting. This course is a follow-up to the Basic
Technical Drafting course. CADD - Computer Aided Drafting and Design - will
be emphasized. Students will explore specialized areas where drafting is an
essential skill, including pipe, architectural, aerospace, computer, welding
and structural drafting.
BASIC TECHNICAL DRAFTING (1 credit)
A basic technical drawing course in drafting includes units on instruments,
geometry, lettering, multi-view drawings, dimensioning, sections, auxiliaries,
pictorials, and fasteners. This class includes a basic computer aided drafting
and design (CADD) unit at the end. There is a lab fee of $20.00. This course
is for grades 10-12.
BASIC WOOD TECHNOLOGY
1 unit elective credit course for 10th-12th grade students with emphasis on
safety, hand tools, machine tools and industrial technical methods of manufacturing
production. There is a lab fee of $20.00. Mandatory OSHA components are included
in this class. See the above explanation.
CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
One unit elective credit for 10th - 12th grade students. Exploration of construction
technology. Investigating all areas of the construction industry from planning
to completion of light, heavy, industrial, and civil construction and various
careers associated with each area. There is a lab fee of $20.00. Mandatory
OSHA components are included in this class. See the above explanation.
GENERAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
GTE is not a prerequisite for basic wood or welding technology although it
is good preparation for these classes. It is for students in the 9th-12th
grade. This course covers four major areas. The first area is mechanical drawing,
the second area is woodworking, the third area is small gas engines/power
mechanics, and the last area is electricity. There is a lab fee of $20.00.
WELDING TECHNOLOGY
One unit elective credit for 10th-12th grade students with emphasis on safety,
shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxygen acetylene gas welding/cutting, gas
metal arc welding (GMAW), (MIG) and a small amount of plasma arc cutting and
gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG) processes. There is a lab fee of $20.00.
Mandatory OSHA components are included in this class. See the above explanation.
