We read "The Mitten" and watched a Power Point
Presentation of the book on the computer. We discussed
setting, character, and plot and made a tree map of the
story. We then made a fun flow map of the sequence that
the animals got into the mitten. As you can see, the
mitten was rather large by the time they were all inside. |

Of coarse we had to make a pattern necklace! This one had
a little snowman made from buttons! We're getting quite
good at making up our own patterns now! |

What fun! We had a snowball fight. We had to use
paper snowballs since we don't get snow here in Louisiana!
The object was to have the least amount of snowballs on your
team's side of the rope! |

Even with the pattern that Mrs. Cook gave us, this was a
challenge. The paper was kind of thick to cut through, but
the snowflakes still turned out very pretty! |
|
 |
 |

We had to estimate how many cotton balls it would take to cover
the snowman and write the number on the back. Then we had
to glue them on and check how close we were to our estimates! |

Mrs. Shannon came and shared a few winter stories with us.
She also took the time to make us this cute counting snowflake
snack!
As you can see, we REALLY enjoyed the snack! |

We talked about the weather in Louisiana and why we don't see
very much snow. That led into a discussion of the
different states of water. We then made a Louisiana
Snowman in a baby food jar. We filled the jar half full of
water and added wiggle eyes, 2 sticks, 1 mini carrot nose
(slender triangle cut from fun foam), 1 little black hat (cut
from fun foam), and a little red scarf (cut from scrap
fabric). |

Mrs. Jennifer made us this cute snowman for our classroom!
It's the next best thing to Frosty the Snowman! (pictures will
be up soon!) |

We did a cute little unit on polar animals, but really got
caught up learning about

 |

We listened to a song about penguins and put all that we learned
into a circle map. We also made a double bubble map of how
penguins are alike and different from birds. Then we made
these cute little shape penguins! |

We sang a few penguin songs and had a penguin waddle relay! |

WE traced our shoes on black construction paper and measured the
length of our shoes. We talked about whose shoe was
longer, shorter, equal! Then we made them into cute little
penguin keepsakes! |
 |
 |
 |

What's a penguin
theme without a penguin snack? |
 |

 |

Yet another pattern necklace. I know we make a lot of
them, but we sure know our patterns! (And look how cute!) |
