We made a tree map
that shows how a pumpkin seed grows and then we made this
pumpkin shaped tactile book! (We used coffee grounds for
the soil!) At the end of the week we made "Pumpkin
Pie" in a cup (following directions from a flow map of
course!) and put a picture of us eating it at the end of the
book!

Here are a few of
the thinking maps we made to help us learn about pumpkins!

Here we estimated
how much string would go around our biggest pumpkin. We
then measured and "tree-mapped" if the string was too
long, just right, or too short. Two of us were Just
Right! We measured the "just right" string with
unifix cubes, paper clips, crayons, links, inch worms, and
inches, then graphed our results!

We
related many of the things we learned at our field trip to
Heather's Pumpkin Patch in our Weekly Reader!

Here are two pumpkin frames we made for keepsakes!

We made a tree map by voting for our
favorite pumpkin carving pattern. |

Mrs. Angelia and Mrs.
Leslie came to carve pumpkins one afternoon. We all
learned alot about the inside of a pumpkin (and even got to feel
the inside of one! Ooooooey Gooooooey!) We also estimated
how many seeds were in the biggest pumpkin. Anyway, Mrs.
Angelia gave us a lesson on pumpkin carving and before we knew
it, Mrs. Leslie and Mrs. Cook had carved their own! |

Mrs.
Angelia took home all the seeds that she dug out of our
pumpkin. She roasted half of them and fried the other
half. We had a taste test to see which way we liked them
better and put our results in a tree map! Thanks Mrs.
Angelia!

 |
| We
were curious to see if the inside of a mini pumpkin looked the
same as a big one. So we cut one open. Everything
was the same, just much smaller! How cute!

Mrs. Leslie made this adorable pumpkin cake for a special snack
one day! Thank you so much Mrs. Leslie! It was too
cute to eat, but quite delicious!

In
a center, we had to match the number that was on the bottom of
the pumpkin by counting pumpkin seeds into the pumpkin.
|
|
 |
 |

Later,
we planted our seeds and kept a journal (and a photo flow map)
of how they grew!
|
|
 |
 |

In
a center, we put a mini pumpkin on one side of the scale and
went around the room looking for objects that would fit on the
other side. We had to determine if the object was heavier
or lighter than the pumpkin and record our results on a tree
map!

We
had a lot of fun sorting the pumpkins by color, shape and size.
Then we lined them up from smallest to biggest. |

Deputy Bud came and talked
to us about Trick or Treating Safety and Stranger Danger.
Thank you Deputy Bud for helping us learn how to stay safe and
say no to drugs! |

The Ponchatoula High
School Cheerleaders and Dance Team came and
led us in a few cheers and dances! Just Say NO! |

We made made a multi flow
map about the effects of drugs. We came up with some
really good reasons not to take drugs! Then made a trick
or treat safety book and talked about how to stay safe and make
sure our parents check our candy before we eat it!. |
 |
 |
 |

In Halloween centers, we
got to stamp a pattern with shaped sponges and paint! |
 |
|
 |

We used cookie cutters to
stamp a picture in play dough and then stamped the word to match
the picture. |
 |
 |
 |

We had Halloween puzzles
to put together and also made a patterned necklace! |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |

We used the Halloween
story board to tell Halloween stories! |
 |
|
|

We had a special Halloween
treat and got so much candy that we didn't even need to go trick
or treating! |
