March 2 was Dr.
Seuss' 101st birthday. We did several "101" activities like
counting to 101 by 2's, 5's, and 10's (and 1's of course!) We also had a
little visit from the Cat in the Hat while we were reading that
very book! As you can see, we made our own "Cat in
the Hat" hats! We also noticed the ABAB pattern of
the red and white stripes! Dr. Seuss would be so
proud!
We also played Dr.
Seuss Kindergarten on the computer!
It helped us to
practice many of the things we have learned this year!

| Mrs.
Angelia made these cute Cat in the Hat cupcakes and we decorated
them with some Cat in the Hat fruit snacks that Mrs. Cook found! |
 |
 |

 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| We
also made a cat hat snack by cutting circles from fruit roll ups
(hat brim) and stacking gummy savers to make a pattern. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
| We
came up with words in the "at" word family and
included it on the back of this Cat in the Hat writing
activity. We also talked about how the Cat in the Hat did
not follow the rules and made a multi-flow map of why we need to
follow the rules where ever we are. |

Even some of the
teachers dressed up on this Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss'
birthday!) |
 |
 |
 |

We read Hop on Pop and talked about rhyming words. We
played Rhyming Bingo and also came up with 101 pairs of rhyming
words in honor of Dr. Seuss' 101st birthday! We also made
a circle map with other possible rhyming titles for the
book. Then we got into groups and had to take two rhyming
words, write a silly sentence with them and illustrate what we
wrote.

We read Fox in Socks
and wore crazy socks to school that day! Look at all the
different mix matched and silly striped socks we wore!
Some of them were even hand made to look crazy! We also
talked about tongue twisters. We went to this tongue
twister site for kids
and tried a few of them for fun! |

 |

We read One Fish, Two
Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and did several activities that went
along with this book! We had a really good time and
learned a lot! We had to create a silly creature and come up with a silly nonsense name that rhymed
with any ole word we could think of. Then we made up silly
sentences and made a class book of our crazy critters!
Here are just a few of Mrs. Cook's Crazy Critters! |

My Nip slipped on
a drip. |

My Zoop has the
croop! |
My Mub is in the
tub! |

My Blip turned a
flip! |

My Rak hurt his
back! |

My Noop eats
gloop! |

We made number
sentences with goldfish... |

...in the little sections of the plates! |

We found the sum
by pulling them down to the big part of the plate! |

We used the
number ball to get the 2 numbers to add together! |

We counted out
that many fish and added! |

We made goldfish
patterns! |

|

|

We made shapes
with our goldfish! |

We graphed the
colored goldfish! |

|

|

We sorted our
goldfish! |
 |

We turned our picture graph into a bar graph! |

This is an all time
favorite and a MUST for any Dr. Seuss unit! We made green
eggs and ham of course. We also made "Sam I Am"
juice to go with it! We made a tree map showing
whether we thought we would like green eggs and ham or
not. Gotta admit, those green eggs and ham
didn't look too appetizing, but they sure tasted good! We listed various green foods and
talked about how we have to try new things to see if we will
like new things! Then we made a placemat with a menu on
the back with only green foods for each meal!

We
also read the foot book and did several activities with our
feet! We made a class book of our foot prints. Each
page said "________ has 2 red feet," and so on.
What fun we had! What messes we made! Just like the
Cat in the Hat! But we cleaned up our mess, just like he
did! When Mrs. Cook put the book together, we read it and
counted our feet by 2's!
We helped Mrs.
Cook think of rhyming words for this little toe poem and drew
the faces on the bottom of our toes. We had fun doing this
little "toe play!"
We also graphed our shoes on the
carpet: Girls tennis shoes, Boys tennis shoes, Girls dress
shoes, Boys dress shoes! We talked about what we had more
of and what we had less of!
Mrs. Cook was glad when we put
all of our shoes back on! Peweeeeeee! ;OP

We watched Daisy Head Maysie and talked about how everyone is
different and the importance of remembering who you are and
where you came from. We made these cute headbands to share
with our families! |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |

We watched "Hortan Hatches the Egg" and talked about
different animal combinations. Mrs. Cook gave us each a
crazy critter plate and had us pair up with a buddy. We
then had to think of a new name for our "crossed
critters." This was a lot of fun! |

Elephotamus |

Bearonkey |

Froguala |

Hippanda |

Leopino |

Lionaffe |

Frogaphant |

Bearkey |

Turaffe |

We watched "The Butter Battle Book" and it just so
happened that we had a guest at school that week showing us how
to make butter with a churn! |

We got together with Mrs. Marchinko's class and read "Bartholamew
and the Oobleck." Then we did the coolest thing
ever! We made oobleck! It took 3 cups of water and
about 5 cups of cornstarch. We added green food coloring
and watched the magic occur. It was a solid that you could
hold, squeeze, and slap! But when you let it sit, it
melted to a ooey gooey slime! |

 |
| We
made a double bubble map of solids and liquids!
Their answers were awesome! |
 |
It
was amazing to see how they related the oobleck and the butter
to the concept! |
| Thank
you Dr. Seuss for all the good books! We'll keep on rhymin'! |
