Valentine's
Day lends itself to so many educational activities. We
were able to work our curriculum into the theme so easily.
Take a look at a few of the things we did throughout the
week!
Not to mention all the fun we had!

We glued
all our our valentines into a keepsake book to remember all of
our friends in kindergarten! |

We made these cute
little picture frame magnets! |

We sorted our
valentine heart candy by color! Some of us sorted words!
Then we graphed our valentine heart candy! We also
measured various items around our room to see how many candy
hearts long things were! |

We read a few books
about friendship and made a circle map about friends. Then
we painted pictures (Me and My Best Friend) and Mrs. Cook di-cut
them into puzzles. We had a fun time putting them back
together and exchanging them with our best friend to see if they
could put our "Best Friend Puzzle" back
together. We talked about how we share many likes and
differences with our best friend, but like the puzzle, we have
to work hard to stay together! |

Bee my valentine! |

This is the valentine "Bee My Honey" bulletin board
that we made. We talked about why bee was spelled the way
it was and why it said honey instead of valentine. They
surprisingly made the connection very quickly!

We put together heart
puzzles. We had to match the numbers with the stickers in
one center and match up the sweetheart phrase in another center
(then read it of course!) |

We made lots of animals out of different sized hearts!

We listened/sang "Valentine Land" while passing a
heart around the circle. When the music stopped, the
person holding the heart had to go to Valentine Land (the middle
of the circle!)
In
Writer's Block, we wrote
"________ is my valentine because __________."
In bookmaking, we made a flow map of "How to Make a
Valentine."

We put our handprints on
each side of a "broken heart" and glued them to the
ends of a sentence strip. We wrote "I love you this
much" on the sentence strip to make a hug for our moms and
dads! |

In centers, we made
these "Queen of Hearts" crowns (King of Hearts for the
boys!) We had fun making such a mess with the paint!
And of course we made a valentine necklace with patterned beads
and foam heart cut outs! |

We learned the letter "Ll" this week and so we
participated in a listening activity in which we had to pass a
leaf and a ladybug to our left every time Mrs. Cook read the
word "ladybug" in the story. Then we made this
cute little ladybug from hearts!

Here we are making
valentine snow globes! We mixed half water, half baby oil,
and 2 drops of red food coloring. The kids think it's so
neat to watch the red trickle through the oil and "burst"
into the water. We talked about how oil and water do not
mix. Then the kids cut up beads, sprinkled glitter and
sequins in to make a pretty little Valentine Snowglobe. We
attached the following poem:
This Valentines snowglobe,
I made just for you.
I put my love inside,
For when you feel blue.
Just pick up the globe,
Twirl it up side down,
And watch my love go all around!

We
also stamped our handprints in the shape of a heart with the
following poem:
A
piece of me I give to you,
This special heart because "I love you."
The heart is full of love from me!
It shows that we are a family!
