We made a web by throwing the ball of yarn across the circle to someone.  But before each person could throw it, they had to think of a word that started with the letter "Ss."

Here are a few of the thinking maps that we made during our Spider Theme.

Double Bubble: Spiders vs. Insects

We found spider webs at home by spraying hairspray on black construction paper and laying the paper on the web.  We brought them to school and used photos on the "WEB" to discover what kind of webs we had.  Then we printed the pictures and made a tree map of the different types of webs!

We sang "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and acted it out with props.  We used three different sized spiders and sang in three different voices!  (Ask about it!)  We put the spiders in size order from smallest to largest.  We also found all the popcorn words we knew in the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" chart, as well as all of the words with long vowel sounds (which was our language arts focus for the week.)

We made egg carton spiders and then displayed them on our bulletin board!

In centers we made these creepy looking spider webs by rolling a marble in white paint!

We made these little eye pointers to "keep our eyes on the words" as we read!  It's a great reminder to use one to one correspondence with the words that we're reading!

Here we made cool spider hats, but not without practicing our number writing skills.  After saying our number poems (which tells how to make each number), we matched 8 legs up with 8 feet.
Don't we look cute?

We made this cute little spider counting book in which we had to fill in the numbers 1-12 and then put that many spiders on the web.  We used our thumbprints for spiders and added legs with crayons!

In "Cooking Corner" we made these cute little spider snacks.  There are gummy insects in front of the spider to show that spiders eat insects!  What a yummy treat!  (I usually use black pull apart licorice for the legs, but couldn't find any in time.)

We had a spider relay race.  It was kind of hard without 8 legs!
