We
sorted and graphed "Dem Bones." After we did
that we added groups together (ex. How many feet and hands do
you have?) Of course we had to build a skeleton after all
of that!
We sorted big and small bones. We also made brace map that
showed the different parts of a skeleton! Well, a few of
them. There are over 200 bones in the human skeleton!
We talked about different ways to
measure length. A few of our moms helped us mark the
length of our real skeleton on big paper. We then used
different things to measure the lengths of our skeletons!
We recorded our measurements and made a class book!
"___________'s skeleton is 28 crayons
tall."
In our "Cooking Corner" we made a flow map and
followed the directions to make a skeleton cupcake with
"Dem Bones."
We talked about the purpose of our skeleton: to make us stand up
tall and to give our bodies a shape. We made a replica of
our spine. The spools of thread represent the vertebrae
that protect our spinal cord. In between the spools are
foam circles that represent the disks that keep the bones from
rubbing together!
We also talked
about our rib cage and how it protects our lungs. We used
paper sacks to represent how delicate our lungs are and how they
would not work if they got a hole in them.
An all-time favorite: Q-tip Skeletons!
We practiced our pattern making skills by making these cool
skeleton necklaces!
