What is Peer Mediation?

The program involves Mediators working with their peers to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and nonviolent manner. The program is designed to intervene in conflicts before they escalate into serious fights or confrontations. The program will also give a group of students the opportunity to expand their leadership and communications skills while serving their peers as Mediators

 

 
Why is Mediation necessary in our schools?
The club increases communication among students, teachers, administrators, and parents. The program also reduces school violence, vandalism, and suspensions. It encourages students to resolve their own disputes by developing listening, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
 
 

Club Dues:

$15.00

 

  Club Goals:

To provide a group of students the opportunity to expand their leadership and communication skills while serving their peers as mediators

 
 

When is Mediation Useful?

Mediation is useful in rumors, prejudice, name- calling, threats, verbal confrontation, teasing, pushing property, friendships, and relationships.
 

 

 
When not to Mediate?
Students will not mediate when the disputes are involving weapons, drugs, physical/ sexual abuse, physical fights/ stealing

It is the belief of the club that effective and orderly procedures and discipline are necessary to establish an atmosphere which provides the opportunity to become a good citizens and effective leaders.
 
     Peer mediator must be viewed as role models for other students. Inappropriate behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. All members are expected to follow parish policies, school rules, club rules and procedures. Those who choose to violate rules and procedures will lose club points
