The United States Military Service Academy will host the 2008 Academy Day. It is a chance for students to meet with Senator David Vitter and representatives of the five academies on Saturday, September 27 at SLU Teachers’ Education Center in Hammond. See the flyers posted around campus.

Wendy’s High School Heisman Memorial Award---Wendy’s Restaurants will be honoring both male and female high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Eligibility for application is to any graduating 2009 senior that has at least a “B” GPA and participates in at least one school-sponsored sport. The Baton Rouge Area Foundation has a variety of scholarships available for seniors state-wide and deadlines are approaching. The find out more information and download the applications, go to www.braf.org and click on scholarships.

 

Eugene McDermott Scholars Program at the University of Texas at Dallas is looking for top scholars to participate in their program. Information is available at http://www.utdallas.edu/mcdermont.

 

The Gates Millennium Scholars Scholarship program is an award designed for seniors with a 3.0 GPA and who are African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. The application is in the counselor’s office.

 

GovBenefits.gov is the official benefits website of the U.S. Government. This easy to use website provides access and information to more than 1000 benefit and assistance programs.

 

Register to win a $1000 scholarship from LELA; go to www.lela.org and sign up. Scholarships are awarded quarterly.

LSU is offering the LA-Stem program for students with a 3.5 GPA, 24 on ACT and will declare a major in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field.  The application forms are available online at www.lsu.edu/lastem, you must also have a nomination form completed, that form is available online or in the LSU folder in the scholarship box. Deadline is December 7th.

 

The Coca Cola Scholarship application is now open. Visit www.coca-colascholars.org and complete the online application by October 31st.

 

Applications for the SAE’s 2009 Engineering scholarships are being accepted September 1 through December 1, 2008. SAE offers more than 60 corporate and university sponsored scholarships to qualified students who are interested in the study of engineering and related sciences. UNO will be offering free ACT Prep Workshops on different dates. The first one is Sunday, October 19 from 2-4 p.m. Register online at www.admissions.uno.edu and click on Event Reservations. Flyers are in the scholarship box under UNO.

 

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program offers awards to high school students for outstanding acts of community service. Instructions for applying for this award are in the scholarship box, the deadline for submitting an application is October 31, 2008.

 

Seniors, many of the colleges and universities have opportunities to apply for Freshman scholarships, please visit the individual college/university website and search for scholarships. Deadlines are very important so do not delay. Example, SLU, LSU and Tulane have instituted several new freshman scholarship programs, please check their websites if interested.

 

Information cards are in the outer counselor’s office pertaining to Collins College in Arizona. This is a liberal arts schools specializing in film, video games, visual arts, design, etc. For more information, complete a card and mail it off.

ULL Scholarship applications for incoming freshman in the Fall, 2009 are available in the scholarship box. The deadline is January 30, 2009.

 

LSU’s LA-Stem Research Scholars Program nomination deadline is November 15th, the application deadline is December 12th. The applications are online, but the nomination forms are paper apps in the scholarship box.
