Dress Codes
DRESS CODE
The dress code of Hammond High School shall be
that adopted by the Tangipahoa Parish School System.
This includes khaki pants, skirts, or jumpers;
white, navy or purple shirts of the following styles
– oxford or polo, long or short sleeve—and
closed-toe, closed-heel shoes (no wedges,
high-heels, sandals, flip-flops, or slippers). If
desired, one (1) t-shirt ONLY may be worn under the
uniform shirt. The procedure for dress code
violations will be as follows:
(1) Verbal warning.
(2) ISSP.
(3) Student will be sent home until parents bring
them back
to school in proper attire. (No phone calls
allowed).
(4) Student will be suspended for three days for
willful
disobedience thereafter.
Part of the school uniform at HHS is the school
ID. Students are to wear the ID at all times while
on campus. No alterations or additions to the ID are
allowed. Defacing the ID in any manner will result
in immediate ISSP and/or suspension. The procedure
for not having an ID shall be as follows: (1) Call
home for someone to bring ID to school; (2) Purchase
a new one for $5 from the main office; and
(3) If unable to complete 1 or 2, you will be placed
in ISSP for the same day.
We place special emphasis on the following
regulations for grades 9 through 12 at Hammond High
School:
(1) Hair styles and mustaches shall be clean and
neatly groomed and shall not detract from the
learning environment nor be a safety factor for any
of the school’s curricular offerings. Any hairstyles
that detract from the unique environment of a school
shall be dealt with by the principal or his/her
designee. Markings, designs, or carvings in the hair
are not allowed.
(2) Earrings shall be worn only in the ears of
female students. Earrings shall not be worn by male
students. No large medallions, necklaces, earrings,
or nose/tongue rings shall be worn by either male or
female students. No other visible piercings shall be
allowed.
(3) No hats, caps or other headwear shall be
worn on campus, except when a medical condition or
religious belief warrants.
(4) The length of jumpers or skirts shall be
knee-length or below.
(5) No midriff shirts or blouses shall be worn.
(6) All pants (of appropriate size) shall be
worn at the waistline and, if pants have belt loops,
a belt must be worn. Cuffs on pants are allowed ONLY
if the design of the pants originally have them. You
may not roll them.
(7) Shirts (of appropriate size) must be worn
inside pants so that belts and belt loops may be
seen. This means that shirts may not be draped or
tucked under. Shirts with finished edges must be
longer than waist length and remain tucked in when
arms are raised.
(8) Students who are pregnant must adhere to the
uniform and dress code policy of the Tangipahoa
Parish School System. Students who are pregnant must
wear a jumper.
(9) The principal must approve other special
occasions requiring a modification of the dress
code.
(10) All students must wear the appropriate
school uniform when participating in any
school-sponsored field trip. The principal must
approve exceptions.
