Scholarships
“Labs are Vital” Scholarship Contest for students interested in life science and are analytical thinkers or creative thinkers in design and/or video production. This is a $2500 award. For detail and to enter the contest visit the website at www.labsciencecareers.com. The contest ends March 7th.
Sammy Awards, a chance at $7500 in awards for students who are academic-scholar athletes. For information, the rules and application visit the website at www.bodybymilk.com. The deadline is March 7th.
Robert C. Byrd Honor Scholarship, an award for students who will attend a Louisiana college/university. Students must have a 3.5 GPA and a 23 ACT. Applications are in the scholarship box in the counselor’s office. Application must be postmarked by March 7th.
LA College Goal Sunday is February 10 from 2-4 p.m. The Office of Student Financial Assistance is offering this opportunity to students and their parents to assist them in completing the FAFSA application for college entrance, TOPS, other financial aid, etc. Visit www.osfa.la.gov and click on College Goal Sunday to find the locations of the meetings. SLU will be one of the sites for a meeting offering assistance. Pick up one of the bookmarks with the information from your English class or in the counselor’s office.

College Goal Sunday is February 10, 2007 beginning at 2 p.m. at SLU-North Campus main building Rm 113. This is a good opportunity for students and parents to complete the FAFSA. They will help you with all the forms.
Seniors, February is Financial Aid Awareness Month, many of the banks and loan companies have special programs this month for completing financial aid packages and scholarships. The following have sent materials about scholarships, please take advantage of the opportunities: Louisiana Federal Credit Union, Ronald E. Thomas Memorial Scholarship; to participate you must be a member of the credit union, and write an essay on a particular topic. The essays must be received by mail or email by Monday, March 3rd. Lela also has several scholarship opportunities to apply for, some do require an essay. For more information about them, visit the website at www.GoFAAM.com. The deadline for some of their opportunities is 02/29/08. They are also hosting several financial aid workshops around the area. Check them out for other scholarship opportunities.
Seniors, Nicholls University is offering Advanced Placement Testing on Saturday, February 23, 2008 to students with a minimum ACT score of 23. Applications must be faxed or mailed by 02/12/08 Seniors, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation has several scholarship offerings which may apply to you.
