Homework

As much as we all hate working on homework, it is necessary in the fifth grade.  Please make sure your child has a designated place and time to work on homework.  If he/she pays attention in class they should be able to complete all assignments with little help.  I hand out weekly homework sheets every Monday.  This sheet lists all homework assignments, reminders, and test dates.  Please check your child’s homework sheet each night to make sure that your child has completed the necessary assignments.  I also ask that you look over their completed homework for correctness.  I assign homework on a regular basis, with the exception of Fridays.  I never assign homework to be completed over the weekend unless the students are being asked to gather materials for an upcoming project or activity.

I believe that homework is essential to a child’s success in school.  Homework helps reinforce skills that are being taught in class and also helps to keep you informed about what your child is learning.  All homework is checked the next day in class.  Students will receive either a  check or an X.  No credit will be given for partial or  incomplete assignments.  Students who received a homework sheet on Monday and are absent during the week, are expected to turn in their assigned work when they return to school.  At the end of the six weeks, the students will receive a final grade for completing their homework.  Grades are as follows:

A-      All homework assignments were completed.

B-      One missed homework assignment.

C-      Two missed homework assignments.

D-      Three missed homework assignments.

F-       Four or more  missed homework assignments.
