Welcome to Amite Elementary School. We are proud of
our school and our student's accomplishments. First and foremost, Amite
Elementary is a children's school. The entire program is designed to provide
achievement and success to every child.
The two major reasons parents send their child to any school is student
safety and academic success. Amite Elementary School has a history of success in
both of these areas. The school is located in a quiet neighborhood and, while parent
participation is actively encouraged, access to the school is carefully controlled.
Academically, the school has been recognized each of the past four years by the
Board of Elementary
and Secondary Education for scholastic growth and academic
achievement.
Amite Elementary has an outstanding faculty, over 65% of our teachers
hold Master's degrees or above (the highest percentage in the parish) and every
member of our faculty is fully certified. The spirit of cooperation and "can do"
attitude provides an atmosphere where academic achievement flourishes.
The academic program focuses on basics but does not ignore current
research or technology. Added to the basic program are the following:
Two PC computer
labs with 30 Windows XP computers in each.

Each classroom is equipped with at least one up-to-date computer, printer, flex
camera, 32 inch television hooked to the computer for presentation purposes, scanners and digital cameras.
- An eight-thousand book library with
seven computers on the Internet and a computer hooked to a 32 inch television
for presentation purposes.

A Wireless Laptop Lab which holds 14 laptop computers that can be
rolled to any location for student use.
- Physical education,
music, art, and library classes that every student attends for 30-40
minutes
per week.

A Project READ teacher for those students showing some
characteristics of dyslexia.
- An early literacy library consisting of over 300 Titles with 12 copies
of each book.

A big book library with over 100 books available.
- A fully-instituted phonics program for every student.

Five Pre-Kindergarten programs providing services to 100 students a year.
- Two Speech Therapists providing services to those with speech
problems.

Two Non-Categorical Pre-School classes.
- Two MMR teachers.

One LD teacher.
- One MR teacher.

One Adaptive PE teacher.
- A School Nurse who is in the school
two days a week and on-call for
the remainder of the week.
