My name is Kathy Schilling. I have lived in Amite all of my life. I am the fifth child in a family of six children. I am married to Lee Schilling and we have two children. Scott is 25 and is a graduate of LSU. He is employed with First Guaranty Bank in Amite. He was very active in high school. He worked for the LSU football program, where he was a videographer. Yes, he did get all of the perks that the players got, including the “RING”. He graduated in May 2005! Hope is 24 and also a graduate of LSU. She is teaching 3rd grade in Baton Rouge. She was also very active in high school and wishes she could have been involved even more. I have been teaching for almost 28 years. Lee and I have been married for 28 years also. I received my BA and MED from SLU. I recently completed my Plus 30. I began my career at Kentwood Elementary and transferred to Amite Elementary a year and one half later. I have taught kindergarten 27 of the 28 years. I am very active at my school. I am the kindergarten representative. I serve on the Campus Action Team board. I am the media coordinator. I have served on many committees during the past several years. I am a co-sponsor of the Amite Elementary Wahoop dance team. I have served as chairperson for the north Tangi Relay for Life for the past Four years. My philosophy has always been to treat my students as if they were my children. I try to be fair and just. My goal is to offer a variety of different learning experiences so that I might reach every child.
