Janet Haydel's fourth graders work with the iPAQ for
the first time. Her students are taking turns
writing a simple note to Mrs. Haydel and beaming it.
After everyone has a turn, she will beam a note back
to them. They're using the keyboard method of input
for simplicity right now. Oh, look, even her
Disney students got in on the act. |

iPAQs.

excitement.
Mrs. Welch tells about a math lesson in which
the iPAQ played an integral part. "We were
working on fractions today. All the students
used their slates to answer a problem asking
what fractional part of the object is shaded.
They also had to draw another example of that
fraction. I pulled the name of one child to come
to the iPAQ, which was under the VizCam, to show
the other students the answer to the problem as
well as draw another example of the fraction.
We used Pocket Word in the Drawing view. It was
perfect for illustrating fractions. Everyone
could see the iPAQ quite well on the TV. " See
pictures below.

We're NOT just
"Eazin' On Down The Road" to summer vacation!
Students at D. C. Reeves are learning "smaller"
and "newer" ways of collecting, organizing, and
interrupting data. They are anxiously waiting
their turn to experience the many computing
functions of iPAQ.
Mrs. Vickie Welch, Mrs. Janet Haydel, and Mrs.
Annette Tullier are enrolled in the "iPAQ The
Knowledge" 8 week course. They are implementing
a data collecting activity with third and fourth
grade students and are excited about the impact
of the handheld Pocket PC on student learning.

activity. DCR students used iPAQs to help
gather data and record results.
