Tangipahoa Parish School System is conducting a
pilot project using handheld computers in the
classrooms at Amite Elementary and three other
TPSS schools.
Dina
Spears worked with Candy Wallace's Third Graders at
Amite Elementary using
the iPAQs and basic skill programs from Pocket
Tutor. As you can tell from the pictures below,
students were totally engaged and exciting learning
was taking place. Click on the thumbnails below to
see the pictures enlarged.
Students at Amite
Elementary School are being introduced to the
latest in computer technology. Handheld
computers are being integrated into the Computer
lab curriculum by Computer and Technology
Teacher Dina Spears. The school received 30
iPAQs as part of a program being piloted in
Tangipahoa Parish schools. The teachers
receiving the iPAQs were trained in the use of
handhelds and how to implement them into the
educational program.
These first grade students below are in Mrs.
Cynthia Walker’s class at Amite Elementary
School. They used several applications on the
handhelds that helped them with math and reading
skills. The iPAQ computers will be used with
students in Kindergarten through fourth grade at
Amite Elementary School. Click on the thumbnails
below to see the pictures enlarged.
Carmen Brabham's first
graders are "iPAQing" with Pocket Tutor
applications.
Carmen
Brabham's First Graders
used Time Tracker on their iPAQs for independent
practice in Math this week. Mrs. Brabham taught
a lesson on telling time and then distributed
the iPAQs. She says, "It was wonderful!!! It
was amazing how individualized the programs
are. Some of my students were on level one,
while my more advanced students advanced to
levels 3 and 4 in Time Tracker." The pictures
above show how totally engrossed the students
were in this activity.
