The Tangipahoa Parish School System, in partnership with the community, is committed to provide strong instructional leadership, a safe and orderly environment, high expectations, and a system to measure achievement which enables each student to achieve at his/her maximum intellectual capacity and to become an independently contributing, responsible member of society.

Instruction occurs in an environment that is conducive to learning. Effective instruction requires order and discipline which necessitates the absence of distractions, frictions, and disturbances. A learning environment provides a positive, friendly, yet business like atmosphere where students and school personnel work cooperatively toward recognized goals.

To assist the parent and the student in working toward those goals, this handbook will:
• outline parishwide policies and procedures.
• describe the role of the parent and student.

We believe that the Tangipahoa Parish School System exists to serve all the people as best it can. In order to do this, the school system believes that individuals should be accepted at their level of development and guided in such a way that they learn what is expected of them. We expect students to mature to their individual capacity emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and vocationally.

We believe that children are endowed with individual capacities and characteristics, and that our schools, to the best of their abilities, should provide students with the kind of education best fitted for them as individuals. We know that the needs of children are similar, but not identical, and we try to adapt our program to this knowledge.

As children become older and more mature, we try to provide them with the opportunities to make choices, as we believe that the making of wise choices is a necessary part of living in a democracy.

We believe, therefore, that those involved in education must make every effort to meet the needs of all students in granting them the fullest possible educational opportunities.
