HEAD LICE CONTROL

Head lice infestation is an important condition for parents and school officials.  Control of the infestation is made difficult by close exposure situations.  Most transmission is caused by the sharing of personal items (combs, hairbrushes, and clothing.)

Once identified, control measures should be taken in the home and will be taken in the school.  Each school has personnel trained to detect head lice.

If a student is found to have head lice in the school setting, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Classmates and close contacts will be checked by school personnel.
  2. The parent of the infested student will be called to pick the student up from school.
  3. After the student has been treated with a lice specific shampoo and all nits have been removed, the  parent or guardian must accompany the student to school for re-admittance.
  4. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO RIDE A SCHOOL BUS UNTIL CLEARED FOR RE-ADMITTANCE BY SCHOOL PERSONNEL.
  5. A maximum of 3 days excused absence will be allowed for one infestation.

We encourage parents to routinely check their own children for head lice and notify the school if they find a problem.
