STANDARD 1 
(READING COMPREHENSION) 
Have students discuss the role of each character.
STANDARD 2 
(WRITING PROCESS) 
Have each student list a real reason why they feel mosquitoes buzz in people's ears.  Make a chart.
STANDARD 3 
(WRITING/GRAMMAR) 
(IDEA TAKEN FROM WEBSITE BELOW)  Have students list the action words in the story.  Discuss the meaning of each word.
STANDARD 4 
(SPEAKING/LISTENING) 
Have students act out the action words used above.
STANDARD 5 
(INFORMATION SOURCES) 
Research (as a class) to find facts about mosquitoes.  Talk about which resource is best to use for this information and why it sio the best.
STANDARD 6 
(LITERATURE) 
Explain to the students that this is an African folktale.  Compare the characteristics of this story to other folktales that have been read in class.
STANDARD 7 
(REASONING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING) 
QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION:  Who really caused the death of the owlet?  Should the mosquito be punished?
