NAME OF BOOK: THE THREE LITTLE PIGS
 
STANDARD 1 
(READING COMPREHENSION) 
Have students identify the three pigs and the material each used to make his house.
STANDARD 2 
(WRITING PROCESS) 
Read another version of the story to the children.  Have the chidlren dictate the different endings to the story.  Then have students dictate an original ending to the story.
STANDARD 3 
(WRITING/GRAMMAR) 
Stress the meaning of the following words: 
                                    first             second            third 
Have students draw the three little pigs in line and label them by the ordinal words.
STANDARD 4 
(SPEAKING/LISTENING) 
Have students act out the story as the teacher reads it.
STANDARD 5 
(INFORMATION SOURCES) 
Demonstrate how you could find information about pigs using the Internet.  Have students collect facts about pigs.  Make a chart.
STANDARD 6 
(LITERATURE) 
Tell the students that this is a folktale.  Explain the meaning of a folktale.  Have students tell why the two stories have different endings.
STANDARD 7 
(REASONING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING) 
Have students draw pictures to show how they would desgin a house that the wold could not enter.  Have students explain why the wold could not enter.
