OTHER NOTES ABOUT TEST DESIGN:
Students are not required to recall
all formulas
or unit conversions from memory. Students are provided with a
"Mathematics
Reference Sheet" during testing.

SUGGESTIONS:
1) Have students write all of the steps
in solving the word (reading) problems.
2) Encourage students to write SOMETHING
even if they don't think they know how to work the problem.
3) Have students work the problems with
and without calculators.
4) Students should be encouraged to
use the following steps when problem-solving in math.

A. What do you know? B. What do you need to find out? 2. PLAN A. What will you do? B. What operation or strategy will you use? 3. SOLVE A. How will you use your plan? B. What is the answer? 4. LOOK BACK A. Did you check your work? B. Is your answer reasonable? |

Sample problems are included for each area. In addition, parents might consider working on the geometry section by having children do the following:
1) Identify and draw squares, rectangles, pentagons,
traingles,
quadrilaterals, hexagons, cylinders, cubes, pyramids, etc.
2) They should be able to draw congruent figures.
3) They should be able to recognize symmetric figures.
4) They should recognize parallel and intersecting lines.
5) They should identify points, line segments, and lines.
6) They should identify right angles.
7) They should be able to find locations on a map.
8) They should be able to give directions using a map.
9) They should be able to solve problems related to geometry.
